Sets of brothers who are part of the Cy-Christian football team.

CY-CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL RUNS IN THE FAMILY – The Cy-Christian Warriors took the field for the home opener with five sets of brothers among the 46 team members. When players are asked for words to describe the team, one word that often comes up is brotherhood.

Cypress Woods High School student Andrew Ficalora, a cadet in the school’s AFJROTC unit, was named the top overall graduate in the Summer Leadership Training Program.

CY WOODS AFJROTC CADETS COMPLETE LEADERSHIP TRAINING – Cypress Woods High School students enrolled in the Air Force Junior ROTC program earned top honors in the Summer Leadership Training Program at Prairie View A&M University. Among more than 375 students from Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, Cypress Woods students Nicholas Clark, Andrew Ficalora, Michael Shirley and Devin Wilkins each earned the Distinguished Cadet award. Cadet Ficalora also earned the Willie A. Tempton Award as the top overall graduate of the summer leadership school.

Cadets went through five days of rigorous training on military drill, academics, physical training and personal inspections. AFJROTC instructors from other units graded the cadets on their performance and chose the winners of these awards.

LANGHAM CREEK HURDLER NAMED TO ALL-USA TRACK TEAM – Langham Creek High School senior Skylar Ross-Ransom was selected to the USA Today 2012 All-USA girls’ track and field team. Skylar was one of 52 female athletes and one of 10 female hurdlers in the country selected to the team.

Criteria included ranking on the USA Today and Track and Field News national lists, the number of top performances and head-to-head competitions. She was listed with her top 100-meter hurdles time of 13.59 seconds.

Skylar won gold medals in both the 100-meter hurdles at the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June and the USA Track and Field Youth Outdoor Championships in July. She was the UIL state champion in the event during the State Track and Field Championships in May.
