Merche Restaurant explored the Russian River Valley during a special celebration of DeLoach Vineyards Winery, named “Top 100 Winery of the Year” last year by Wine & Spirits Magazine. During the celebration, Merche served an extravagant five-course meal, each course paired with a DeLoach Vineyards favorite. More than 60 guests were in attendance, enjoying the savory food, wine and fun. A live band, including a saxophonist, keyboardist and cellist, complimented the candlelight ambiance of the restaurant. The event resulted in the perfect night to enjoy with family, friends and loved ones.

HHN Homes had quite a surprise when ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition came calling just over a month ago. ABC chose HHN Homes to build a new home for a deserving family in the Houston area. Immediately, the builders, Lee Harris and Linda Stewart, gathered a team of architects and suppliers to build a “green” sustainable home.

First Baptist Church of Houston kicked off the exciting week with a Pep Rally where volunteers were able to get information about the needs for the build.   Houston Texans’ TORO and Houston Astros Junction Jack were in attendance pumping up the crowd

The Johnson family was the lucky recipient of all the planning and hard work. Elaine and Eric Johnson are marriage counselors whose mission is to keep African American families together in their community, which is located in South Houston. Their 700-square-foot home was a gift of inheritance for Elaine, and was in poor condition. With damage from Hurricane Ike and the state of the economy, it was an impossible feat for the Johnsons to repair their home; a home where they had to step lightly for fear of falling through the floor.

ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition recognized their need and called on the city of Houston to help rebuild not only a home for the family but help a community. With a goal of building a home in 106 hours, HHN Homes got to work along with major donors including Fort Bend Mechanical, Studio Red Architects, Cool A Zone, Detering Company, Occasio Productions, Montalbano Lumber, Kafoglis Enterprises and thousands of volunteers.

Upon their return from Paris, a trip arranged by Trafalgar Tours, the Johnson family helped yell “Move that Bus” and laid their eyes upon a gorgeous, “green” and sustainable 4,500-square-foot home.

The Houston showing of Extreme Makeover Home Edition is scheduled to air in late September on ABC.

The Astros Wives Organization hosted its 21st Annual Gala benefiting Houston Area Women’s Center. Heather Byrdak and Morgan Keppinger co-chaired the spectacular event, attended by more than 400 people.

Guests were greeted by music of the tropics and “shooters” of Caribbean cocktails as they mingled with friends and the Houston Astros baseball players. All were delighted to  welcome the organization’s co-founder, Patty Biggio, who attended with her husband, Astros superstar Craig. Another special guest star in attendance was Jeff Bagwell with his wife, Ericka.

As emcee Milo Hamillton and Vikki Vines facilitated the live auction, players stepped up to the plate by making themselves available for exclusive experiences with a lucky winner. Tim Byrdak, Jeff Kepppinger and Humberto Quintero were thrilled to auction themselves as part of a deep sea fishing package where five guests go out on a 46-foot Hatteras, courtesy of Tim Wilson Investigations, Castaway Bar and Grille and Howard Covens.

Mary and Carlos Lee upped the ante by offering a visit to their private ranch located in Panama, including horseback riding and fishing. Sybil Roos was the high bidder for the fabulous package. The Lees extended their generosity by agreeing to a second package purchased by Patricia and Randall Swearingen, who offered to match the winning bid. Continental Airlines swooped in and donated four first-class round trip tickets to make the second package just as fabulous as the first.

Johnny V from Mo’s… A Place for Steaks offered dinner for 10 with former Astros player, Doug Brocail, whom now serves as the special assistant to the general manager. Biggio and Bagwell saw a great opportunity to raise even more money for HAWC and threw themselves into the package to attend the dinner. Even emcee, Milo Hamilton jumped on board. Ultimately, the dinner was purchased by Kelli and John Weinzierl and includes a wine pairing.

Others in attendance included honorary chairpersons Elizabeth and Drayton McLane, Melissa and Michael Weaster, Trish and Gregg Perkin, Greg Miller, Lisa and David Befort, Jeff Heberling, Chris and Don Sanders, Lisa and Paul Hill, Sandy and Slade Lewis of Lewis Jewelers, Dr. and Mrs. Amir Halevy and David Huntington.
