Cy-Fair Brigade, Cypress Lakes Sterling Stars And The Jersey Village Gold Dusters Performed With Lady Gaga
Dance team members representing the Cy-Fair Brigade, Cypress Lakes Sterling Stars and the Jersey Village Gold Dusters participated in the Super Bowl 51 halftime performance at NRG Stadium on Feb. 5.
Selected groups began rehearsing for the performance in the evenings at various Houston area stadiums, including NRG stadium. In total, students attended six rehearsals leading up to the event.
“When Joyce Pennington asked me to participate in Super Bowl 51, I was totally blown away,” said Courtney Nelson, Gold Dusters director. “This invitation afforded our students the opportunity to do what they love, see professionals in the entertainment industry, how they work and to be a part of the cast for one incredible show!
“Besides the halftime performance, we were then asked to be among the three schools that created the pre-game visuals. Being within 100 feet of President and Mrs. Bush, the award-winning cast of Hamilton and Luke Bryan allowed our students to act out many of the life-long lessons that dance/drill team teaches: professionalism, work ethic and determination to give 100 percent at all times!” Nelson said.
Sterling Stars Director Annette Stark, a 29-year veteran in the dance industry, said she found
the Super Bowl experience to be unparalleled.
“What a blessing to have had this once-in-a-lifetime experience of being a part of the most-watched show in the world,” she said. “Without a doubt, our amazing Sterling Stars are forever changed for the better and more educated young people as a result of the intense process, the Super Bowl halftime performance and time with Gaga and her dancers.”
