The Round Top Collection Brings Jeff Krause’s Creative Drive To Home And Garden Décor

The heart is a fitting symbol for the The Round Top Collection (RTC), which is the creation of longtime Cypress residents Jeff and Debbie Krause. They have turned a love for each other, their family and the antique and folk art sensibilities of Round Top, Texas into a thriving business.

A heart shaped from a rusted whiskey barrel hoop was the first product they sold 32 years ago on the Round Top Town Square. Thanks to the positive reaction of shoppers and the couple’s hard work and creativity, today RTC is a home and garden décor destination with an international customer base. Its products are available from an online shop, two local brick-and-mortar stores, at the Nutcracker Market, and in various home and garden stores. RTC has a 45,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Houston.

The heart is also symbolic of Jeff and Debbie’s life together, which is defined by family. Son Austin and his wife Lexi, who are both 26, are involved in various aspects of helping run the company. Their other son Mitchell, 20, is studying at Baylor. Daughter Katelyn, 17, works part time at the Cypress store when she is not busy with extracurricular activities at Cypress Ranch High School. Jenna is 13.

The Krauses also define their business and each of their products with a sense of love and faith. They know their clientele has a passion for decorating their yards and homes year-round with the Round Top feel. Shoppers in the Katy and Cypress stores see the RTC products interspersed with antiques and other decorations that give them an appreciation of the Round Top country sophistication.

All seasons are celebrated at the brick-and-mortar stores year round. “We showcase all the different designs at the stores, not just Christmas or Valentines, and hope to also inspire giving and sharing,” Jeff says.

The Round Top Collection Galleries were built in communities that embrace family and traditions, where decorating the home is about making it a festive place for celebrating family values not just on the holidays but every day. “It’s about decorating and sharing everyday, whether people greet a neighbor with a Round Top Collection decoration on their front door or in their flower bed or throughout the house. With the Round Top Collection, it’s not just a garden stake, it’s way of telling everyone that they are welcome in your home,” Jeff explains.

For the company’s 32 years, Jeff has led his staff by example, doing everything from designing the stores with a Round Top feel with his flair for antiques to being the main product designer.

“Everything pretty much comes from a sketch I make. Even though I have amazing local and out-of-state artists artists that work for me in different styles, I’m still very hands-on translating the ideas into metal, wood or canvas to where they are in the best shape to represent us. l also have the help of a welder who helps me make original pieces,” Jeff says. “It takes a team.”

His design inspiration comes from marketplace trends and traditional shapes, icons and symbols, such as a peppermint candy, a jolly Santa face or a cardinal – things that strike an intimate and pleasant feeling in someone’s heart.

Deep in the Krauses’ hearts is the desire to give back. Through The Round Top Collection Cares fundraiser, the company hosts in-store parties for nonprofit organizations which receive 20 percent of the event’s proceeds. The fundraiser’s motto is “From our heart to your cause, we want to give back!”

“We’re trying to touch our community by bringing people in and giving them an amazing event and creating fellowship with these customers and help support their needs and causes as well,” Jeff explains.

“I feel it is my responsibility to give back to community when we are so blessed.”
